play ball!
My "pitcher of the future", Roy Oswalt, has been kicking some tail all spring. Recently, he pitched six scoreless innings. Mark my word, he will win numerous Cy Young Awards as his career moves along.
afghanistan update
U.S. forces have seized a cache of weapons in their recent sweeps.

i have made this decision
I will not be posting anything else on the war on Iraq because, well, mainly, the people who are running this war are just pussyfooting around and this is going to cost American lives.
For Example: They are bombing those governmental buildings in Baghdad, while planes flying over Iraqi army positions are flying back with bombs/missles still attached to the plane. I totally understand you are wanting to see if they will surrender. They can't surrender until we get there. Might as well encourage the crap out of them.
There are images of around 700 Iraqi soldiers sitting away from their artillery and tanks. Once again, waiting for somebody to surrender to. Might as well ensure they won't change their minds. Blow the crap out of that artillery and those tanks.
As well, the policy of basically going around certain villages to avoid the fight for the village is a stupid, stupid concept. There is enemy there. They cannot stay ahead of you and they are incapable of getting behind you. Oh, except we are going to help them get behind us.
As of now, praise God, we have had very, very low casualties. I pray that it keeps going that way. I pray that this little war is over quickly and with minimal loss of American and Coalition lives. However, I can no longer bring myself to keep up with the war on, what I believe, are greatly misconceived operational grounds.
diplomatic scorecard
45 backing the United States, 17 against.
That was on March 19th. No telling what the score is now.
- So France stands alone in the active attempt to save Saddam, having promised a U.N. Security Council veto of an American-British-Spanish resolution of force.
human shields gain an education
One of the human shields who have just escaped from Iraq says: "the trip 'had shocked me back to reality.'"
How did that happen?
- Some of the Iraqis he interviewed on camera "told me they would commit suicide if American bombing didn't start. They were willing to see their homes demolished to gain their freedom from Saddam's bloody tyranny. They convinced me that Saddam was a monster the likes of which the world had not seen since Stalin and Hitler. He and his sons are sick sadists. Their tales of slow torture and killing made me ill, such as people put in a huge shredder for plastic products, feet first so they could hear their screams as bodies got chewed up from foot to head."
speaking of awe
I keep reading the tickers on FOX and CNN. The ONE thing that keeps popping out at me. The "column of armor" approaching Baghdad is "10 miles wide and 20 miles long". Now, if my numbers are correct, that is approximately 200 square miles of armor. I'm not an expert, but that sounds "large and in charge" to me.
wouldn't want to be associated with something successful and just
Nissan, along with many other companies, is pulling ads off of the U.S. airwaves so they won't be associated with the war in Iraq. Okay, now, as stupid as that really is, one thing I did not know until I read this article:
- The Japanese carmaker, controlled by Renault of France . . .
i just don't see it
You have these Pro-Saddam Pro-Oppression Pro-Dictator Pro-Tyrant Anti-Freedom Anti-Liberation Anti-War groups peacefully demonstrating for peace all over the place. What are they protesting?
They are protesting our use of force in Iraq because "all the innocents will die". Actually, I think that they believe we are actually targeting ONLY the innocent people of Iraq. Of course, you and I know that they are a bit a LOT naive.
Of course, you would think that if innocent civilians are dying by the thousands (as they would have us believe) wouldn't millions more be flocking toward the borders? They aren't. That tells me that they are either (a) dying or, most likely, (b) not being threatened by the United States.
quick, call the peaceniks!
On the eve before the war in Iraq, our old friend Fidel decided to round up those critical to his government.
Where's the protests?!?! I'm ready! Oh, wait. He's not commanding American military forces. Nevermind. I now realize that there will be no protests.

if this is true
Then, it's over before it even starts. The United States government says that it is in possession of photographs showing "being placed on a stretcher and into an ambulance".
They also describe "panicked digging" at the same location.
who's the unilateralist now?
Lee, at Right Thinking From the Left Coast, says that France is the one acting unilaterally now.
running down wall street
Wall Street appears to love the war in Iraq. Biggest 5 day gain in over 20 years. Impressive.
Now, if I can just see this at the pump. Prove to me there is no "conspiracy" by the oil companies. Go ahead, prove it.
sheer genius
Yes, you're right. Donald Rumsfield is a genius, but that's not what I'm talking about. No, I'm talking about nations rejecting the U.S. request to expel Iraqi diplomats. Not that I think the request was one to be made. I think it was rather arrogant and brash - which is something I normally love. But, in the story, there is at least one quote I find priceless:
- "The U.S. can't dictate to other countries," Indonesian Vice President Hamzah Haz told reporters after attending Friday prayers at a mosque outside Jakarta. "It is only us who can decide our own foreign policies."
- "Such a decision is a matter of our sovereignty," said [French] Foreign Ministry spokesman Francois Rivasseau.
just look at the resentment
Local Iraqis are showing all kinds of resentment towards the Coalition Forces. Well, it's not exactly resentment.
once again, they are the minority
The Pro-Saddam, Pro-Tyrant, Pro-Dictator, Pro-Communist, Pro-Despot protestors are, as usual, in the minority according to recent polls.
Is this going to stop them? Nah. Why? Because they are more bent on beating somebody up than in being an actual contributing part of society.
those crazy french, part 1 billion
France is, to steal a phrase, pre-vetoing any United Nations resolution "allowing the United States and Britain to administer postwar Iraq."
Fine. Just as we are taking care of this now without you, we will take care of it then -- without you.
is he injured?
Eyewitness accounts say that Saddam may be injured.
- Officials told ABC News that witnesses observed the dictator being carried out on a stretcher from the bombed residential complex with an oxygen mask over his face.
at least they're happy about us
Once again, the citizens of Iraq seem glad to see us.
"shock and awe"
It has been that.
We were sittiing here watching on television being thankful it isn't directed toward us. Those were some fairly large explosions. Everything in Baghdad appears to be directed at governmental complexes. Of course, I am watching from a terrible angle.
those dang ads
I really love the ads at the top of my page. They are mostly some idiotic statements about "Peace Not War". Some hippie wanna be is trying to utilize the Capitalism he hates so much to earn some green.
Today's ads:
- "Pursue Peace Shirt" -- Make a statement about your beliefs. As worn by many celebrities.
- "The world is at stake" -- War on Iraq will increase terrorism and cost US lives. More inspections.
- "Pursue Peace Shirt" -- Make a statement of support for the people of Iraq. As worn by many of the people who support freedom.
- "The world is at stake." -- War on Iraq will bring the Iraqi people freedom from oppression and save many lives across the world. Free Iraq and then perform some inspections.
ah, what do they know
Coalition forces are marching onward, ever onward toward the goal which is .the liberation of Iraq.
Yes, we have suffered a casuality in this march, but, all things considered, we have showed extreme restraint. Our forces are being met by some resistance, but mostly just a happy to be liberated population. For all those who think this is not a just war:
- Waving Iraqi civilians greeted members of the 1st Marine Division as they entered the town of Safwan. Using winch chains, some of the troops hauled down giant portraits of Saddam overlooking a street.
- "We're very happy... Saddam Hussein is a butcher," said a man in the back of a pickup truck, identifying himself only as Abdullah. A woman fell at the feet of the Americans and embraced them, touching their knees.
what he said
For the lack of saying it any better, I link to Brett's post about his growing respect for the military and our President. Not that he wasn't behind them before, he was, but the professionalism they are showing is very respectable.
We are not just blowing stuff up. We are systematically and professionally marching toward Baghdad with only Saddam's regime on our minds. That is simply incredible.
redefining "unilateralism"
As France and Germany and the rest of the socialists at the United Nations say that America is acting "unilaterally", the White House releases a list of Coalition Members
- Afghanistan, Albania, Australia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Colombia, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, Denmark, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Eritrea, Estonia, Ethiopia, Georgia, Honduras, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Mongolia, Netherlands, Nicaragua, Palau, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Rwanda, Singapore, Slovakia, Solomon Islands, South Korea, Spain, Turkey, Uganda, United Kingdom, United States, Uzbekistan
- 1) The population of Coalition countries is approximately 1.17 billion people.
2) Coalition countries have a combined GDP of approximately $21.8 trillion.
3) Every major race, religion, ethnicity in the world is represented.
4) The Coalition includes nations from every continent on the globe
no class
In Montreal, hockey fans booed the U.S. national anthem before the hockey game. Techincally, I really don't care. No, I would never disrespect the Canadian heroes who have gone before by doing that to them, but, I actually expect nothing better from people from Montreal.
I have been to Montreal numerous times. Never - and I mean NEVER - have I met anybody whom I would call even remotely polite. If there ever was an area full of people who deserve each other, it is the Montreal area of Canada. They're little - rude - different.

fleeing the united states
Instead of following the law of the land they chose to live in, Pakistanis are getting the heck out of Dodge ahead of the deadline to register.
where's the french now?
Those missles really were of the banned variety.
those dangerous cartoon drawers
This cartoon has been ticking off a few people. I found it mostly humorous.
great, when do i see it?
Oil prices have fallen to a 13 week low and are sitting around $28 per barrell. Now, when do I see that at the gas pump?
I remember people laughing at me when I said it was (for lack of a better word) a conspiracy by the oil companies to build up their wallets. Yep. Laughed right at me. If the price goes up a flippin' penny, I see it immediately at the pump. However, when it goes down a buck, I won't see it for weeks. That, as I stated, seems to planned to me.
must be thursday
How do I know that without looking at a calendar? Because, Tom Daschle is speaking out of the other side of his mouth. Remember what he said yesterday? How much of a "sad" day it was because of our "miserable" diplomatic effort and how we are now "forced" into war? Yeah? Good. Today:
- "We may have had differences of opinion about what brought us to this point, but the president is the commander-in-chief and today, we unite behind him as well," said Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle, D-S.D.
coalition siezes port
I can only speculate that they are speaking of Basra, the main port city for Iraq. There is no story posted yet.
iraq's material breach
Just to show that the United Nations is a large gathering of idiocy, Iraq is fighting back (sort of) by firing those SCUD missles they don't have.
Of course, they don't have any SCUD missles, that would be a material breach of the United Nations resolutions. Nice of those weapons inspectors to find those.
what they are teaching their children
"Hundreds of schoolchildren in the Gaza Strip" hailed Saddam as the United States started its assault on Iraq.
Schoolchildren. Barely old enough to decide what they want for lunch. Evidently, they are being taught how to become "martyrs" and fight the "Great Satan".
Abou Ayta, an Egyptian political activist says:
- "I believe that American soldiers whenever they step on Iraqi soil, they will be defeated," Abou Ayta said in an interview. "I am sure of that."
the iraqi population's reaction?
WorldNetDaily is reporting that the people left in Baghdad are talking to the reporters left in Baghdad about their view of the American invasion:
- "Many, many Iraqis are telling us now not always in the whispers we only heard in the past, but now in quite candid conversations that they are waiting for America to come and bring them liberty," said New York Times reporter John Burns in an interview from Baghdad on the PBS News Hour last night.
for those planning civil disobedience
Emperor Misha has a warning just for you.
what room do they have to talk
It appears that the same nations who opposed the war in the United Nations are opposed to its start as well. Yada, yada, yada.
- Permanent members of the U.N. Security Council were quick to condemn the start of the war on Thursday, saying it was a violation of international law.
- China, which like France and Russia had pushed for a diplomatic solution through the United Nations, called for an immediate halt to military action and a return to efforts to resolve the crisis peacefully.
- Shortly after U.S. President George W. Bush announced the strike aimed at taking out Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein, Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Kong Quan said the war was a violation of the U.N. charter and international law.
- Russian President Vladimir Putin came out strongly against the attack, saying it brought into question the role of international law.
- In New York, Iraq ambassador to the United Nations Mohammed Aldouri joined a swathe of nations questioning the war's legality, calling the military action "a violation of international law."
- You don't have to kill my wife for me to want to stop you. If you even look like you are going to hurt my wife, expect me to act pre-emptively
french training
According to U.S. military sources, 2/3 of Iraq's conscript army is ready to surrender. That makes me feel better. Those are troops whom we don't have to kill and they won't have a chance to kill us. I pray that this is a true report.
some people are just like that
For the most part, Congress has expressed support for President Bush's decision to start the attack. Well, except for the obvious ones.
this morning
Okay, I know. You're mad because I posted nothing last night about the attacks on Iraq. I didn't feel the need. In all actuality, I was surprised you weren't just watching the television. For those who have no television or radio, here are your updates:
War starts with tactical, surgical strikes designed to "decapitate" the Iraqi military leadership.
Saddam speaks to Iraq - except that it looked taped and didn't look like Saddam. We'll see.
At almost the same time, the 82nd Airborne raids villages in Afghanistan.
Iraq's feeble retaliation was to shoot some SCUDs (which, remember, they don't have) towards our troops.
Please pray for:
1 - Our Troops
2 - Our President
3 - Our Leadership
4 - Our Country

protesting is dangerous business
Some idiot, rightfully exercising his Freedom of Speech, decided to trespass on the Golden Gate Bridge to hang Pro-Saddam anti-war banners and dutifully fell to his death, thus cleansing the San Fran. gene pool.
Though, I do feel sorry for his family for their loss, I have absolutely no sympathy for morons like this. You may, or may not, agree with the war in Iraq, but aiding the enemy in any way is, to put it lightly, treason.
democrats would rather be dependent on o.p.e.c
Senate Democrats decided today that they would rather be dependent on Middle Eastern oil than drill our own.
I think I know now what their strategy is. It's really rather brilliant.
If we use up all the oil in the Middle East, they will then be dependent on US for oil and we can rake THEM over the coals.
has it started? who knows
From the Drudge Report comes a link which says that coalition forces are engaged near Basra.
surrendering has started
It seems that the Iraqis are better friends with the French than even I thought.
tariq aziz captured?
Debka is reporting that Tariq Aziz, Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister, has been captured by Kurdish forces and is being questioned by U.S. Intelligence officials.
[Link shamelessly and unrepentently stolen from Common Sense and Wonder]
unilateralism, that's what it's called
As 45 nations join 'coalition of willing', France is doing it's own CYA. I'm sure France is starting to realize that all that Iraqi oil is about to be taken from Chirac's buddy, Saddam.
they just don't get it
PETA is upset because Lamar Outdoor has rejected their billboard.
- The rejection was blasted in a statement released Tuesday by PETA President Ingrid Newkirk. "This ban is a slap in the face for free speech and grossly unfair to all the parents who want the March of Dimes to help children, not hurt animals," she said.
blix is an idiot
Hans Blix says that Iraq won't use its chemical and biological weapons against coalition troops.
Of course, he is also the same guy who said Saddam didn't HAVE any.
has it started?
Fox News Channel is reporting (off the cuff) that the U.S. and Coalition forces may have already started moving into Iraq. Also, they have reported, though not confirmed this either, that some oil is flowing freely out of two southern Iraqi oil facilities.
These reports are unconfirmed, but we'll stay tuned.
UPDATE 6:31am - In all actuality, I think they were talking about the troops moving into the Demilitarized Zone in Iraq. I guess, technically, that is "moving into Iraq". Also, they are saying that Tariq Aziz (the loud mouth we always saw on T.V.) has left the country.
russians find way to question american sovereignty
Russia may have found a way to finally beat the United States. Inform the United Nations that IT has full sovereignty over American foreign policy. The Russians want the United Nations back in the forefront in the "dispute" with Iraq.
human shield idiocy
I need to get this off of my chest: "You want to be a human shield? You are less intelligent than your mother thought."
The whole idea of "human shield" is stupid. You are willing to go half-way around the globe and stand in front of the military installations of a tyrannical dictator. That's stupid.
The human shields in Baghdad are waiting for the bombs to start falling. Yep, and then they will realize how stupid they were.
- The ultimatum issued by President Bush on Monday dramatically increases the chance that Faith Fippinger may die in the next few days.
- Since early February, the Sarasota, Fla., native has slept every night at the Daura oil refinery, a huge complex at the southern edge of Baghdad that supplies the entire metropolitan region with gasoline and other fuels.
- "I may die here," she said calmly. "But my death is no more or less important than the Iraqi lives that will be lost -- for example, my neighbors, who live next to the refineries, a woman who brings in tea every morning."

this is kind of cool
"I Am Always Right" translated into spanish
Of course, I have no clue how close it is.
i hate when this happens
I have no clue how long they've had me BlogRolled, but since they do, you guys know my policy.
Common Sense and Wonder has been added.
the iraqi war plan
It's simple logistics. Overwhelm the invading forces with having a great number of your army surrendering to the invaders. This will slow them down and give you more time.
another type of victory
A Federal Court has ruled, once again, that just because students walk onto school grounds doesn't mean that they forfeit their First Amendment Rights to Freedom of Speech.
- Students have free-speech rights to hand out candy canes that have prayers attached to them at school, a federal judge has ruled.
going it alone
The U.S. unilateral war for Iraqi oil, is sure to be a failure. I mean, how on earth could ONE country go to war with ONE other country and win? The odds are just too astronomical.
Well, it's a good thing that the definition of "unilateralism" includes 30 named countries and 15 others wishing not to be named at this time. That's 46 (counting us) countries in this unilateral action.
Socialists. Can't live with 'em - can't sho.... wait, we could, but we won't.
and so it goes
It seems that Saddam's sons, Sneezy and Dopey, don't want to leave Iraq under Bush's terms. Well, the easiest of the terms, anyway.
Okie dokie. "Burger King, Iraq". Have it your way.
new addition
Just added Opinion Paper by Brett Rogers to the BlogRoll.
I have no clue how long he's been there, but I'm glad I found him.
this is really ticking me off
I know, I could actually PAY for the BlogSpot space, but then I wouldn't have that fantastic ad about "Stop the War Machine" lapel pins up there.
choose a side
It appears that Russia's State Duma would prefer France.
no world support?
Interesting fact for all you anti-War people:
- The coalition gathered to fight the tyranny of Saddam is the third largest ever assembled. In order:
1) World War II
2) Operation Desert Storm - the First Persian Gulf War
3) Operation "Kick the Crap Out Of Saddam" - this go round
afro martin sheen . . . again
Martin Sheen has re-entered the fray. And, he's trying to "think" again.
- Actor Martin Sheen defended the rights of Hollywood anti-war activists to express their views in an opinion piece published Monday in the Los Angeles Times.
another world net daily idiotic headline
Do they read these things before they post them?
- Air marshals disciplined for 'sexcapades'
TSA reprimands senior officials after federal probe
no surprises here
Surprise, surprise, surprise. Guess who rejected the ultimatum given them last night. You get three guesses and the first three don't count.
- Iraq rejected Bush's ultimatum, saying that a U.S. attack to force Saddam from power would be "a grave mistake."
- Saddam warned that American forces will find an Iraqi fighter ready to die for his country "behind every rock, tree and wall."
- Saddam made a last-minute bid to avert war, admitting that Iraq had once possessed weapons of mass destruction to defend itself from Iran and Israel -- but insisting that it no longer has them.
- "We are not weapons collectors," the official Iraqi News Agency quoted him as saying.
- "When Saddam Hussein says he has no weapons of mass destruction, he means what he says," Saddam said.

bush's speech
Full Text
- For more than a decade, the United States and other nations have pursued patient and honorable efforts to disarm the Iraqi regime without war.
- The United States and other nations did nothing to deserve or invite this threat, but we will do everything to defeat it.
- Before the day of horror can come, before it is too late to act, this danger will be removed.
- The United States of America has the sovereign authority to use force in assuring its own national security.
- Saddam Hussein and his sons must leave Iraq within 48 hours.
god in fish form
Okay, sorry to interrupt your reading about the President's great speech, but this was too good to pass on.
It seems that God has revealed himself in the form of a 20 pound carp.
Okay, stop laughing, I have questions:
- An obscure Jewish sect in New York has been gripped in awe by what it believes to be a mystical visitation by a 20lb carp that was heard shouting in Hebrew, in what many Jews worldwide are hailing as a modern miracle.
- According to two fish-cutters at the New Square Fish Market, the carp was about to be slaughtered and made into gefilte fish for Sabbath dinner when it suddenly began shouting apocalyptic warnings in Hebrew.
- The only witnesses to the mystical show were Zalmen Rosen, a 57-year-old Hasid with 11 children, and his co-worker, Luis Nivelo.
- They say that on 28 January at 4pm they were about to club the carp on the head when it began yelling.
- Nivelo, a Gentile who does not understand Hebrew, was so shocked at the sight of a fish talking in any language that he fell over. He ran into the front of the store screaming: 'It's the Devil! The Devil is here!'
- Then the shop owner heard it shouting warnings and commands too.
- The animated carp commanded Rosen to pray and study the Torah.
- Rosen tried to kill the fish
- [Nivelo]'s grown tired of the whole thing. 'It's just a big headache for me,' he added. 'I pull my phone out of the wall at night. I don't sleep and I've lost weight.'
no more sympathy for their cause
That does it. Now they've attacked something I cannot give up. The Greenies seem to think that Houston's smog problem can be solved by banning barbecue. Now, I'm not going to get into "Texas has the best b-b-q." Or, "Arkansas has the best b-b-q." No, we have to unite and Just Say No To Clean Air!
That does it, I'm grilling a brisket!
economy update
It seems that Wall Street likes the United Nations irrelevancy as much as some of us do.
sound familiar?
Remember how many times we have heard over the past three of four months that Saddam has no chemical weapons? Remember that? Surely, you haven't forgotten. You do? Great!
Now, Saddam is arming his troops with those weapons he no longer has.
images of resolve
For a truly awe-inspiring site of U.S. and British military might, one only need to see images like this to understand our resolve in this matter.
take that mister pussycat
Wicked Thoughts posted about a 6-year-old who is facing suspension because he took a plastic butterknife from the school cafeteria to show his mom that he can butter his own toast. The school is trying to suspend the boy on a "dangerous weapons violation". The parents hired an attorney and is ready to charge the school with "supplying weapons to children".
Ah, you get what you ask for. Of course, if the parents would homeschool their child, they wouldn't be spending the money for an attorney :)
yeah, and your point
Researchers have discovered that getting married doesn't change your outlook on life. Did they really think it did?
- Most newlyweds experience a brief emotional bounce after their wedding, but they eventually return to the same outlook they had on life before they tied the knot, according to a study released Sunday.
- "We found that people were no more satisfied after marriage than they were prior to marriage," the researchers said.
an economic ploy
A big "right wing conspiracy", I'm sure. The stock markets have taken off with the news that an actual decision has been made with regard to the war.
Yeah, it was all an economic conspiracy. That's the ticket.
war updates
For those keeping score, here are the updates for today:
- Supporters and non-supporters alike took to the streets over the weekend
Tony Blair had an emergency cabinet meeting and I suppose Bush has had one continuous cabinet meeting
The United States advises the U.N. to leave Iraq, or, I suppose, be included in the war effort
President Bush let the United Nations know it was useless and withdrew a new resolution -- which Saddam would have ignored anyway
President Bush says that the "diplomatic window of opportunity is now closed" -- after 12 years of uselessness
human shields waffle
For some of the human shields, the idea is to stop the impending war. For others, it is to try and save Iraqi civilian lives. However, some are beginning to realize that they are pawns of the Iraqi government. Honestly, how many lives will they save while standing outside an Iraqi nuclear facility? The answer? None.

returning
Just an F.Y.I.:
I have returned from Georgia and posting will commence in the morning. In the meantime, don't do anything I wouldn't do -- and only half the stuff I would.
another reason not to be p.c.
All around Britain, children will have to do without the traditional Easter food of "hot cross buns" because some have deemed the buns as "offensive to non-Christians". Oh, nevermind the fact that Easter is Christian holiday. Let's ban Easter!!!
Morons.

those crazy cons
Wesley Fitzpatrick needed help. He had a stalker and she was driving him crazy. I know, most men really wouldn't mind a woman stalking them, but to Wesley, it was too much. He took it to court and got a restraining order, and rightfully so. I mean, it was a sure case of harrassment.
Wesley forgot to tell the judge one minor detail, though. You see, the stalker was really Wesley's Parole Officer.

how to ruin a country music career
Go overseas, like a little wuss, and bash Bush.
how to keep cops from doing their jobs
Make them serve 5 years in prison for arresting a person of a different race.
HAHAHAHA!!!!
Now, some people may actually enjoy this more than I did and some others will enjoy it less. It does not stop it from being funny.
Who Is My Baby's Daddy?
where's the leftists now?
Living in Texas, I get to hear how quick we are to send somebody to the death chamber. Yeah, like 23 years is that quick. At least that last person had his execution stayed for a while. Personally, I think he has a valid argument -- prosecutors fought to keep blacks off the jury. That is not a trial by one's peers. Had the jury selection process been ran more effectively, and then the jury had no blacks, I would say he had no arguments. However, it didn't work like that. See? The justice system works -- mostly. Do innocent people get put to death? Probably. Could it be me one day? Yes, it could be. Does that mean the system is inoperable? Absolutely not. It works. People have tons of appeals. That is why those appeals are there.
On the other hand, in China, you have one (1) appeal of a death sentence. If you lose that appeal (which, undoubtedly, you will), your sentence is immediately carried out. Do innocent people die? Yes. Probably at an alarming rate. And, now the government of China is making it even easier to carry out your sentence.
Where's the leftist's voices now? Oh, that's right. China is as full of socialist crap as our very own left is.
i say, bring them home
No, not the guys who are going to be kicking the crap out of Saddam's "elite" Republican Guard. I'm talking of the guys who are buried in Europe who fought and died for the freedoms some of those Euro-niks enjoy today. Especially, those in France.
ah, yes
Yes, I have made it safely to Georgia. It took a bit longer than suspected because of the un-godly fog which was present. There were times which you could barely make out the hood of your car. However, I made it.
I may be posting a little this weekend just for those of you who might miss my ramblings.
Wednesday, March 12, 2003
okay ... the scoop
I will not be posting after this until at LEAST late Thursday night. Then, that won't be a lot. I am going to drive to Georgia. Obviously, I can't post and drive -- even though, a wireless Internet connection, a mic, and some voice software . . . nah, my wife would never go for that. She doesn't love me THAT much.
My wife has been out of town for two weeks and I'm going to go and pick her up. I think those people in Georgia are driving her nuts. Yep, she's been away from them too long.
On the good side, I am REALLY looking forward to seeing her. I thought: "Two weeks. No problem. I can handle that. Have a nice vacation visiting all your friends and relatives." Okay, I'm an idiot to think that.
She needed the time seeing her dad though. It's been a year and a half since she saw him last. Besides, he wanted to see his granddaughter --- which, I don't blame him. She's a beautiful one. She can't help that though -- I'm her dad.
You see, I don't have ugly children. Both of my daughters (2 years and 14 years) are the two most beautiful girls in the world. And, I say that totally unbiasedly.
In the mean time, if any of you are in a position to hire marketing a company, I would love to hear from you. I know a really good one who has high integrity and character and some generally "good people". (I hate that saying, but it fits for these people). They "do it all", for the most part; however, they are fairly focused on high-tech solutions. They have recently received some Outstanding Company awards from the Addys (marketing's Oscars).
Okay, outta here for a few. Have fun. And be nice to Jen and, hopefully, Michael while I'm gone.
for those living in a deep, dark hole
The authorities have found and rescued Elizabeth Smart.
If you are a therapist/counsler in the area, donate some time to this young girl and help her. Your pocket book won't suffer noticably.
n.y.c. doesn't seem to remember
New York City Council has officially passed an anti-war resolution.
Is this really surprising? You have a Socialist Democrat for a mayor with a lot of power (for a mayor). Leftist, in general, are very anti-war when there is a Republican President in office.
- In a vote that elicited a range of emotional responses, the City Council approved a resolution Wednesday opposing war with Iraq except as a last resort.
- Let's say you live in a neighborhood. In this neighborhood, there is a man going around tormenting, robbing, raping, beating, and killing your neighbors. However, he has yet to do anything to you. He hasn't even looked in your direction. What do you do? Just let him alone? After all, he isn't bothering you.
No, you wouldn't. You would keep an eye out and hunt him down. Why? Because, he is an evil person and needs to be taken care of.
unsafe seas
Iraq has obtained some rubber boats for use on suicide missions against U.S. naval vessels.
The problem with this is that it would defacto give U.S. warships the authority to blow up any Joe Schmoe on the seas. Of course, this would cause an 'international uproar'. "You guys can't go around blowing up everything on the seas!" We can if it's a threat.

serbian p.m. gunned down
Serbian Prime Minister, Zoran Djindjic, has assassinated by two sniper rounds to the chest.
He was one of the people who played a huge role in the downfall of Slobodan Milosevic's government. The police seem to be sure that this is connected with Djindjic's attempt to crack down on organized crime. If so, there is even more reason to do so.

THE bomb
For those who are interested, the military tested the largest conventional weapon bomb to date. Here's the video.
From the comments on Right-Thinking:
- This thing is so big you can actually watch it falling to earth from what appears to be a good distance away.
- There is no problem so large that it cannot be solved through a sutible application of high explosives
question
It is being reported that Saddam plans a Stalingrad style siege on Baghdad.
I've been asked this question:
- Why not let him sit there and starve?
world leader kofi annan is an idiot
Supreme Potentate Kofi Annan thinks that if the United States attacks Iraq, the war would be an illegal action. Specifically, he says that the 'U.S. would be flouting international law.'
International Law? Did my elected representative pass this law? No? Then kiss off.
pro-saddam anti-war protestors impede on rights of others
Los Angeles police allowed some "peace" protestors to destroy a 9-11 memorial.
- The protesters burned and ripped up flags, flowers and patriotic signs erected on a fence along a boulevard in La Habra, Calif.
- Officers witnessed the vandalism Saturday afternoon but did not arrest three people seen damaging the memorial because they were "exercising the same freedom of speech that the people who put up the flags were," said La Habra Police Capt. John Rees.
- "For this to be vandalism, there had to be an ill-will intent,' he said, according to the Whittier paper.
- "Their free speech stops at destruction of private property," said Collision, who runs The RV Center of La Habra. "If they are allowed to come on my property and burn flags, does that mean I can go to City Hall or the police station and light their flags on fire because that is freedom of speech? To me, this is vandalism."
sorry
I've been away from the computer all day. No particular reason, just wanted the break. I will be posting with a vengeance this evening. Check back then.
As far as this weekend, I will be out of town from Thursday until probably Monday. Going to "get away". I need it.
If one of my "team posters" would post a few times during that time period, it would be greatly appreciated.
Now, off to the news. Woohoo!

the u.n.
Saddam could march down mainstreet pulling a tanker truck full of chemical weapons and the United Nations wouldn't be able to find it.
this is why i can never be politically correct
From Fox News:
- This month's Atlantic Monthly includes an excerpt from Diane Ravitch's new book, The Language Police, which is either amusing or horrifying depending on your point of view. The piece is a simple list of words and phrases banned by major textbook publishers and their suggested alternatives. The piece is not online.
- Blind leading the blind, the (banned as handicapism)
- Confined to a wheelchair (banned as offensive; replace with "person who is mobility impaired")
- Fairy (banned because it suggests homosexuality; replace with "elf")
- Founding Fathers, the (banned as sexist; replace with "the Founders" or "the Framers")
- Huts (banned as ethnocentric; replace with "small houses")
- Little person (banned as offensive; replace with "person of small stature"
on purpose?
Did Hans Blix purposefully omit details of a type of bomb in Iraq that can be filled with chemical or biological weapons?
If so, he loses what's left of his credibility.
ah, why worry?
France and Russia are preparing to exercise their vetoes against any new U.N. Resolution against Iraq. Typical. They want to feel important. No biggie. It isn't like we don't have an international coalition nor the drive and reason.
- De Villepin met top Angolan officials Monday at the start of a quick trip to lobby three undecided African members of the council that will also take him to Cameroon and Guinea. Angola's Foreign Minister Joao Miranda would not say whether his country would support the resolution.
- "It's not my job to say what the Angolan position is," de Villepin said in the capital, Luanda.
- After listening to the latest reports Friday from top U.N. weapons inspectors, Russia's Ivanov said Monday "we did not hear serious arguments for the use of force to solve the Iraqi problem."
what's the point?
The Palestinian Parliament has approved the position of Prime Minister, but then said that he would be absolutely powerless and useless.
Okay, not in those exact words, but that's what they mean. Nothing like a figure head doing nothing and getting paid for it.
- The Palestinian parliament on Monday approved the new position of prime minister, while a senior official said a behind-the-scenes deal is already in place guaranteeing Yasser Arafat continued control over security and peace talks with Israel.
- Approval of the position had been expected; a majority of the 88 members of parliament are from Arafat's Fatah movement which has been pushing for reform, and has urged Arafat to share power.
- However, heated debate was likely later Monday on the powers of the prime minister. An indication came after the vote -- 64-3, with four abstentions -- when Arafat said: "I can understand from your vote that you have accepted the nomination of your brother, Mahmoud Abbas."
"No, no," several members shouted, saying the vote was on creating the position, not on the candidate or his powers.
you think your governor is stupid?
Up in Alaska, the governor, Frank Murkowski, is facing some criticism over his stance on taxes. Yeah, I know. Imagine that.
He says that "user fees are not the same as taxes". Hey, call a "spade a spade", I say.
- The governor said those who characterize his $100 million-plus in revenue raising as taxes are dead wrong. They are not taxes, he said.
- The governor's budget will bring $113 million into state coffers by raising the cost of auto titles and registration and business licenses.
- The governor also wants to tax you $10 for every studded tire you buy.
- The governor's plan increases the state fuel tax from 8 cents to 20 cents a gallon.
- "Are you saying the gasoline tax isn't a tax?" a reporter asked
- "Well, if you happen to take the bus every day, you don't pay it, do you?" the governor responded.
- "Sure you call it a tax, but you don't have to drive."
- "When you're campaigning, you're not spending a lot of time in the back room trying to figure out whether you are going to have to lay a user fee or not," he said.
because we want peace
In one of the great ironies of the day, pro-Saddam anti-war activists have said that when the shooting starts in Iraq, they're going to riot.
Exactly, what kind of pacifist are they? The pro-Saddam anti-war crowd are the ones getting violent now.
In my little world, these people are called "hypocrites".

now that's scarey
We've all taken, at some point, an "online personality test" which usually yields some correct results but is mostly wrong. I know that I've taken at least a hundred of them in my time online. Well, not today, but totally. Everytime, the aforementioned remained true. Then, I took The Star Trek Personality Test and it scared me. It was 100% correct in assessing my personality.
- People like you are generally autonomous, aloof, and intellectual. You sometimes give the impression you have no need of others, but you're intensely curious and driven to learn. You're cautious with others socially and respond best to people who don't push you to be friendly or affectionate. You appreciate when others follow your lead and accept your criticism in the helpful spirit in which it is intended. You're calm by nature and feel off-balance when confronted by highly emotional people.
You're highly organized and expect the same of others. You analyze automatically and enjoy seeing patterns and trends. When your mind is made up, that's it, which means that while you're definitive and strong, you can be stubborn and arrogant.
You respond best to other people's needs when they tell you about them clearly. You value honesty greatly. You prize people who listen to you and respect your ideals. You are somewhat contemptuous of those who don't pay attention to what you say.
You're a conservative dresser, but you have a unique and personal style.
Your primary goal in life is achieving independence and being able to live according to your own standards. Your reward is continual expansion of your competence and knowledge.
Good careers for your type include being a starship captain, intellectual property attorney, news analyst, design engineer, software developer, inventor, Webmaster, architect, and ex-Borg.
why i don't read leftist blogs any longer
I guess that technically that should read "anymore" instead of "any longer". I really did try to read the "other" side of the argument, but I kept seeing the same stuff over and over and over and over again.
I don't mind reading the stuff that many times, but very rarely did I ever see any facts to back up the arguments. People just wanted to parrot what their 'First Lady' and the mindless drone were telling them. Whether or not they were backed by facts was totally unnecessary.
Why do they oppose a war on Iraq?
- "Innocent civilians are going to die."
- "What does Saddam have to do with the War on Terrorism?"
- "Scribbling notes on bombs is disgraceful."
- "But, Saddam will unleash chemical and biological weapons on our young men and women."
- "It will cost too much."
- "President Bush doesn't have the authority to send the troops in."
- "But, the economy is what he should be worried about."
- "It's about the oil."

Being a parent of a teenage girl, I know and feel your pain. They know it all and want it all. However, we must draw lines at some point or they will grow up thinking there are no boundaries. I know that it will be mentioned to my daughter.
for all you socialists democrats who are pro-saddam anti-america pro-united nations
I bring you your very own website: World Socialist Web Site
Some of the stuff on the site:
- What took place on September 11? A group of individuals apparently inspired by Islamic fundamentalism, one of the most reactionary ideologies on the face of earth, smashed two airplanes into the World Trade Center and a third into the Pentagon, while a fourth hijacked plane crashed in western Pennsylvania. The result of this carnage was the death of more than 6,000 human beings, the overwhelming majority of them civilians, representing the greatest loss of life in a single day on American soil since the Civil War.
- This was a heinous political crime whose predictable outcome has been to strengthen the capitalist state, fan the flames of right-wing chauvinism and clear the way for US military intervention in Central Asia.
- The socialist future of mankind depends upon the awakening of the most humane and generous instincts of the working people of the world.
- Our abhorrence of the terror attack does not signify any lessening of opposition to the US government, or any intention to absolve American officials of their responsibility for the building up of the Islamic fundamentalist forces.
- "America is the same country it was before September 11. If you didnt like it then, theres no reason why you should have to pretend to now.
- "America is the same country it was before September 11. If you didn't like it then, you sure as heck aren't going to like it now."
for those intereseted
Here's the link to Get US out! of the United Nations.

UPDATE: Another
UPDATE TO THE UPDATE: Huh. Go figure. "In the 1961 United Nations "peacekeeping" mission in the Congo, the U.N. aerial bombing campaign deliberately, and with U.N. approval, targeted hospitals and many other civilian targets." And they now oppose a war in Iraq on what grounds?
why a war on terror?
Because, people like Khalid Sheikh Mohammed have trained their little terrorist buddies to attack, target, and massacre school children. Children, for God's sake. Not those who can fight back. Not those who will fight back. No, they're plan is to kill your son, daughter, grandchild, niece, and nephew.
- HEAVILY armed al Qaeda thugs practiced storming a school, shooting children and taking hostages in a videotaped training exercise
- The taped training attack was conducted at an abandoned school in Mir Bach Kot, Afghanistan, north of Kabul, a hotbed of al Qaeda activity before coalition forces overthrew the Taliban regime in 2001.
- "Knowing al Qaeda trained to take out a presidential motorcade or an office building is scary, but nothing is more frightening than their training to take over a school," said Idema. "In a classroom in a camp near Jalalabad, we found little desks with bullet holes in them and the backs of the chairs each had seven or eight bullet holes in them. They were definitely aiming to hit critical mass."
that's just wrong

more stupidity from the government
Yeah, imagine that. I posted a while back about some lawmakers who wish to raise the tax on gasoline. Now, other lawmakers are starting to use a little common sense since gasoline prices are near record highs.
Yes, it doesn't seem like a good time to even think about raising gas prices even more. We don't care what your reasoning is.
- The economy cannot continue to grow without a transportation system that moves people and goods efficiently,
he just doesn't get it
The Mayor of St. Louis just doesn't get the First Amendment.

we're almost done
Oh, those brave Iraqi soldiers. Obviously, these guys were around during the 1st Gulf War.
- TERRIFIED Iraqi soldiers have crossed the Kuwait border and tried to surrender to British forces - because they thought the war had already started.
make up your mind already
The Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler makes a good point.
It wasn't too long ago that the South Koreans were marching in the streets to get rid of the United States military. Now, they seem to have changed their minds and are demanding that we stay.
First off, make up your minds. Either you want us there, or not. If the answer is that you want us to go, then, let us go.
Secondly, you aren't in a position to demand anything.
move along, nothing to see on this post

rallies and protests
What's the difference between the two sides of the debate? Fox News has a report which talks of both. The Pro-American and the Anti-War.
The Pro-American rally participants:
- The crowd, estimated by police at 1,500 and by organizers at 2,500, waved flags, sang anthems and mixed in red, white and blue with all the leather.
Robert Bootay, 53, joined in support of his son, Spec. Glen Bootay, who is in Kuwait with the Army's 3rd Infantry Division.
"They're a little disheartened with some of the (anti-war) reaction they're seeing though the media -- but they're ready," Bootay said.
- Later in the afternoon, 25 protesters were arrested on charges of crossing a police line in front of the White House.
"We gave them three warnings, we gave them an opportunity to leave," said Sgt. Scott Fear, a spokesman for the United States Park Police.
- Demonstrators believed they were within the law, said Jodie Evans, a co-founder of Code Pink. "The White House is definitely afraid of women in pink and the power of love," she said.
- "Women are most affected by war," Glover said, also acknowledging International Women's Day. "It is the real caregivers of this mother Earth who are most devastated."
- Joining them on federal grounds were four women followers of the Raelian sect who stripped down to their thong underwear as a sign of opposition to war. The sect believes life on Earth was created by space aliens and claims to have produced human clones.
- "Whenever everybody undresses, the ego goes away and then we can make decisions," said Nadine Gary.
- In Dallas, hundreds of Kurdish Americans rallied to support Bush's push to disarm Iraq and called for the ouster of Saddam Hussein. "Saddam is an evil guy," Bakh Dargali said. "I mean, you have to take him out. I know war is bad, but we have no other choice."
Demonstrators chanted "Life, Life for Kurdistan" on the 12th anniversary of the Kurdish revolt that created their autonomous enclave in northern Iraq. Saddam's attempts to crush the March 1991 uprising created a refugee crisis that displaced millions.
facelift without notice
Almost didn't recognize Owen's new digs.
the thought police
They're at it again. Michael Savage, host of one of the fastest growing radio programs in sydication, is due to debut on MSNBC. GLAD, a homosexual activist group, wants him censored because he thinks homosexuality is ... ahem ... deviant.
Another example of how the left wants to nullify your First Amendment Rights to Freedom of Speech. If it were up to groups like GLAD, morality would be legislated; which, as we all know, is impossible.
the troll is biting off large chunks
The Troll Doll who is the leader in North Korea, may be biting off more than his chubby little, weeble like body can handle.
First, his air force intercepted and shadowed a U.S. plane in international air space. Now, it comes out, that all he wanted were some 'US hostages'. Not to mention his threat to 'torch New York'.
This little lunatic really wants some attention. Maybe this little Oompa Loompa should be watching his backside with the neighbors he has. China, South Korea, Japan, and a glutton of other nations which surround him would like for him to tone down his little "my daddy can beat up your daddy" talk.
The Pro-Saddam Anti-War crowd always asks why we aren't attacking North Korea instead of Iraq. Here's a question back at them: "Would you shut up if we did?"
If we attacked North Korea, it would most likely begin WWIII. How? Figure it this way:
- 1) We attack North Korea
2) N. Korea then attacks S. Korea
3) This battle will escalate until there are literrally hundreds of thousands of U.S. troops on the Korean Peninsula
4) China will take advantage of this and launch an attack on Taiwan
5) We have a defense pact with Taiwan and will have to defend it
6) Literally hundreds of thousands of troops will have to be sent to fight off China.
7) Other nations in the area will then be threatened by China as China's leadership would just love to have more land to draw diminishing resources from
shhh. hear that? didn't think so
Everybody and their uncles are trying to link some hokie money laundering scheme from Haliburton to Cheney. They even hopped on the bandwagon with former Texas State Attorney General Victor Morales (during George Bush's governorship) and his indictment of trying to defraud the state's tobacco settlement case.
But, I did notice that, even here in Texas, nobody - that's n-o-b-o-d-y - wants to dwell on Constable Perry Wooten and his being found guilty on a charge of "abuse of official capacity" which occurred back in July 2002. See, now he's appealling that conviction and is out of jail pending an Appeal Trial.
He only bilked the local tax payers out of hundreds of thousands of dollars. He had official government employees run his errands. He was and is a crook.
On what grounds is he appealling? Racism. See, he's black and was elected and now he says that it is all due to racism. To quote Mr. Wooten:
- There are all kinda 'isms' here.
here's some more
Here in Houston, as you are probably aware of by now, we had a "Rally For America". I previously linked to several sites with pictures, but didn't even think of looking at the sponsor's website. Well, here they are.

p.r. problem
If President Bush made a mistake in making the case for war in Iraq, it was the fact that his cabinet doesn't have a good history at public relations. Yes, the United States is the mightiest military in the history of the world. Even when the military was under-funded by the Clinton administration, they were still the mightiest. But, might alone does not make the case more credible.
Every company in the United States understands that P.R. is the foremost important "marketing" issue they face on a daily basis. Governments seem to have a problem understanding this. Whether or not you agree with a war on Iraq, you must admit that the Bush administration has P.R. issues. Mostly, they're losing the P.R. war. I believe that the reason for this is the act of taking their case to the United Nations - one of the most useless organizations this planet has ever seen.
We are talking about an organization which is supposedly all about peace. This is the same organization that has Iraq scheduled to become head of the Disarmament Committee. The same organization which has Iran on the Human Rights Commission. The same organization which has had Syria and Sudan on the Human Rights Commission. The United Nations is the tool of dictators and despots. An organization which oppressive regimes use to gain a tighter lock on their power. An organization which is funded by the free peoples of the world to protect the tyrants who kill their own populations.
The United Nations is an organization which is outlived it's usefulness.

oh, bless those telemarketers
Because, if it weren't for them, there's no telling how long a nap might last.
that's not what she meant
According to Fox News, Rep. Marcy Kaptur, D-Ohio, is a bit tiffed that "have been deliberately misconstrued in a partisan effort to make her look bad."
Nope, you did that all on your own. Let's see what could have possibly been misconstrued. Kaptur said, and I quote:
- "One could say that Usama bin Laden and these non-nation-state fighters with religious purpose are very similar to those kind of atypical revolutionaries that helped to cast off the British crown."
- Before launching a military strike against Iraq, Americans should consider their own history to remember how powerful the mix of religion and politics can be, she said.
- "If you think back to our founding as a country, we are a country of revolution," said Kaptur.
- When America "cast off monarchical Britain" in 1776, it involved the help of many religious people who had fled repression in other countries
how "in" are you with the big guy?
The French would like for the Pope to talk to God, it seems, and remove "Gluttony" from the Seven Deadly Sins list.
And they call us arrogant? Sheesh.
they are so peaceful as well
How come the terrorists are the vocal part of the peaceful religion? I imagine it is the same reasoning behind those peaceful Peace Anti-War Protestors

yummy
Pete, over at CatholicLight says that March 15th is National Eat an Animal for PETA Day. Sweet. Can I get that medium rare, please?
there's a big time criminal out there!
The feds were called in to investigate what happened to Christine Woods' peanut butter sandwich. It disappeared during the day and was not to be found when she got hungry.
- The woman whose sandwich is gone says she's afraid a wallet or purse could disappear next time.
- Police Lieutenant David Huberty says the theft of a sandwich is still a theft. But he says if he were to send a detective to interview 16 people about it -- it would be an "inappropriate use of resources."
those crazy kids
Ah, you have to love the schools saying it is okay for students to walk out of school in protest of the coming war with Iraq. After all, they are only children expressing their views using their Freedom of Speech. Of course, I couldn't have been the only one seeing this thing getting ugly. Could I?
- An anti-war march against the U.S. policy on Iraq by about 500 Canoga Park High School students turned ugly Wednesday when some in the crowd started looting a gas station convenience store and disrupting traffic.
how much saddam cares
Because he cares so much for his people, Saddam has been procuring U.S. and British uniforms so that his troops can commit war crimes while being disguised as the U.S.
- "Saddam intends to issue these uniforms to Fedayeen Saddam troops who would wear them when conducting reprisals against the Iraqi people so that they could pass the atrocities off as the work of the United States and the United Kingdom," Wilkinson said.
republicans lose first of many cloture votes
In an expected loss on the vote of cloture, the Republicans failed to break the fillibuster over Miguel Estrada's nomination to the U.S. Court of Appeals. You can find a list of "yeas" and "nays" on the Senate website.
All the "nays" were people who do not like the fact that a hispanic can actually live the American dream Democrats.
At least, they are now on record. That's what I like to see. Campaign fodder.
say what?
Rep. Marcy Kaptur, D-Ohio, has now compared Osama to our nation's founding fathers while preparing for a seminar.
- "One could say that Osama bin Laden and these non-nation-state fighters with religious purpose are very similar to those kind of atypical revolutionaries that helped to cast off the British crown," Rep. Marcy Kaptur, D-Ohio, told the Toledo Blade.
- Before launching a military strike against Iraq, Americans should consider their own history to remember how powerful the mix of religion and politics can be, she said.
- "If you think back to our founding as a country, we are a country of revolution," said Kaptur.
- When America "cast off monarchical Britain" in 1776, it involved the help of many religious people who had fled repression in other countries, the 11-term Toledo congresswoman said. She referred specifically to the Green Mountain Boys, a patriot militia organized in 1770 in Bennington, Vt., to confront British forces.

word of advice
When mailing your congressman/woman, don't mail something that, when crushed, turns into a white powder.
oooh, look - iraqi protestors
Saddam forced some more people to act like they support him and made them march through Baghdad.
Now, let those people have their families back.
told you
As I said earlier about the guys who were arrested for "wearing anti-war t-shirts". Turns out that they were also causing trouble with other mall patrons. Leave it up to a "pacifist".
[from the post I found over at Rita's]
it is about oil
So says Rita while posting about who that oil is for.
the ways of a one party system
A key Nigerian opposition leader has been shot to death "in what could be the most serious political killing in the runup to the country's elections in April, police and party officials said."
- A police spokesman confirmed the killing, which appeared to be the latest in a growing list of political assassinations adding to apprehension ahead of Nigeria's critical polls.
this is why
Why are we hopping around the globe catching terrorists? Because they enjoy killing innocent people by blowing up airports and shopping malls.
Since they aren't man enough to actually fight a real adversary, the terrorists resort to killing women and children. If it takes our military hopping around the globe to catch them, I'm all for it.
bogus
No, not you, this.
This guy says he was arrested for his anti-war shirt. Liar.
- The two said they were asked to remove the shirts made at a store there, or leave the mall. They refused.

what's this about?
The United Nations has been drawing up a post-war government for Iraq.
But, I thought they wanted to give inspections more time? What's that? That boat thing again? Ah, I remember:
George has said that we will be going to disarm Saddam. Then told the U.N., in no uncertain terms, this boat's leaving port. Hop on or forget about any opportunity to have a say so aftewards.
Looks like they'd rather want to hop on.
oh, scare me
The Actor's Guild issues a warning against blacklisting actors because of their views pertaining to the upcoming war with Iraq.
Or what? You going to stop making really bad movies?
cloture vote?
Heard on Rush earlier that congressional Republicans are filing for a Cloture Vote today which means that a vote on the Socialists Democrat's filibuster will go to vote on Thursday. Now, the cloture vote will happen again and again unless one thing occurs: the Democrats won't go on record saying they are opposed to the Estrada nomination.
In other words, if the Democrats get out of the cloture vote, they will then be on record as saying that they are opposed to a well qualified, hispanic nominee to the Federal Appeals Court. I don't know how well this will go over politically, especially since one of your voting bases are the Hispanics.
UPDATE: It is finally being reported
no way to make a point
Look, you got a beef with the government and want independence, start fighting the government. Go toe-to-toe with the military and either win or go home. When you start killing people in the airport, you lose all sympathy you may have had.
arrogance of science
They want to clone you the perfect baby. Now, they think they can ensure he or she is smart because they say "stupid" is genetic.
Of course, who is stupid? Ah, anybody who doesn't agree with you.

not everyone forgets
Kuwait remembers what we did for them, even if the French don't. And, we only did it for Kuwait once.
weekend repeats
Tiger Woods has won again and took home a cool million.
I'm starting to think that they just replay the old tournaments every weekend. Certainly, a guy can't win this much. That was his 39 Tour victory (or some outrageous number like that). Unbelievable.
pro liberation rallies
This past weekend, the pro-Saddam crowd saw the pro-American crowd show up in droves. All across our nation, thousands upon thousands of people showed up at these rallies to show their support for America, President Bush, and the liberation of the oppressed peoples of Iraq.
- Dornan said today's pro-Saddam appeasers are "the same kind of people that organized [anti-American demonstrations of the Vietnam War era] all flying the flags of dictatorships of the mini-Hitlers and enemies and signs praising Ho Chi Minh, a mass killer like Saddam Hussein, and enemy flags of the Viet Cong."
- "When he [Eisenhower] ended the Korean War, people didn't take us on," And to the cheering crowd, he added, "When we had a pervert [Clinton] in the White House, they hit the Trade towers when he's president one month. When he's president five days, they gunned down PHD's in front of [CIA headquarters]. They blew up nineteen Air Force guys and killed them in their barracks. They tore two of our embassies apart in different countries. And what did that pervert in the White House do? Checked out interns who are two years younger than Chelsea [is now]."

"The Why of Homeschool"
Good article for those who are interested.
- Small business owner Tim Martin, 29, and his wife, Amy, 28, live in Whitehall, Montana with their four children. Both the Martins have a homeschooling background and are now teaching their brood at home. "Education just works better one-on-one," says Tim. "Why do we think the 'right' way to do education is to put 20 or 30 children in a classroom with one teacher. That model is more fit for manufacturing than education."

Remember all the hubbub about "tax breaks for the rich"? Now, politicians want to tax the poor even more, according to CNN.
One of the major problems I have with the "tax breaks for the rich" crowd is this kind of crap. They want their cake and eat it too.
Bush's tax proposal, though not the best plan for trickle down economics that I've seen, at least benefits everyone. The proposal to raise taxes on gasoline hurts everyone.

You will recall the post which I gave my very short discourse about what I thought of Alabama Governor Bob Riley and his morning Bible study. He holds them in his office. The athiest of Alabama have a problem with the study.
- Alabama Republican Gov. Bob Riley has incurred the wrath of ardent church-state separationists for offering early-morning bible study classes to his staff.
- "He's using the machinery of government to promote the concept that God is necessary in government. It's not."
turkey in bad spot
Fox News is reporting that there will be no new vote on allowing the U.S. to use bases. However, on the Fox News Channel this morning, they are reporting that the Turkey economy pretty much tanked this morning when their stock market opened.
According to FNC, the Lira dropped around 15% while their stock market lost around 12%.
Yep. You aren't going to let us use those bases? Fine. Don't expect a $15 billion check.
Did they REALLY not expect this?

In what could have been the gravest understatements of the 21st century, some of the 'human shields' are heading home. Wanna know why?
- Some of the peace activists who went to Iraq to serve as human shields in the event of war returned home, fearing for their safety, a spokesman said Sunday.

Even though they don't have any biological weapons, there appears to be some discrepancies.

isn't this entrapment?
Be careful when you file a claim that you are disabled. There seems to be a special unit specifically put together to see if you are lying. Their tactics don't seem legal, though.
- Two plainclothes officers with badges told Cheryl Braxton at her northwest Houston apartment two years ago that she was a possible suspect in a robbery investigation.
It was a lie.
They were Harris County sheriff's deputies. But they were working undercover for a little-known Social Security Administration antifraud unit based near Bush Intercontinental Airport. They were secretly testing Braxton to see if she could think and talk crisply, which would contradict her earlier claim that she was disabled, mostly due to mental illness.
There was no robbery case.
pro-american rally
Here in Houston yesterday, "thousands" of people who are proud to be Americans showed up in downtown to cheer and wave flags in support of our country, President, and troops.
- Cheering, chanting and waving flags, thousands jammed shoulder-to-shoulder into downtown Houston's Jones Plaza on Saturday to hear politicians, soldiers and entertainers praise God, America and President Bush's firm stand against Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.
- The ostensibly nonpartisan "Rally for America," sponsored by talk radio station KPRC, quickly turned into a spirited affirmation of Bush's policies.
- The only speaker who was opposed to military intervention in Iraq, U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Houston, was greeted with some boos as she stepped onto the stage midway through the two-hour rally.
- She and her party later were led from the plaza under protective police guard.
- In calling for a resolute stand in Iraq, [retired Air Force Maj. Ellis Buchanan] noted that the Vietnam War was "an ugly war, a sad war."
"Politicians got scared," he said. "They blinked, hesitated and thousands died in vain."
waffling turkeys
Turkey can't agree with each other. Showing the same symptoms as NATO had, Turkey's leaders had to trump each other until one spoke who is un-trump-able. It appears we won't be allowed to use bases in Turkey in the event of an attack on Iraq. Sadly enough, isn't this the SAME country whom we went to bat for for protection in the same event? Oh, yeah, it is. Obviously, the French have something to offer as well.

PETA goes too far?
I first heard this story on Special Report on Fox News last night. You can find the full story here.
- An animal-rights campaign comparing the suffering of livestock to that of Holocaust victims is drawing sharp criticism from a leading Jewish group for "trivializing" the mass murder of Jews.
"The Holocaust on Your Plate" campaign by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals debuted this week in California and will make a national tour.
The display is a set of eight 6-foot-by-10-foot panels showing photographs of Holocaust victims -- emaciated men, crowds of people being forced onto trains, children behind barbed wire, heaps of human bodies -- set next to similar images of cattle, pigs and chickens.
- Abraham H. Foxman, a Holocaust survivor and ADL national director, said linking the deliberate, systematic murder of millions of Jews to the issue of animal rights was "abhorrent."
- "We're asking people to recognize that what Jews and others went through in the Holocaust is what animals go through every day in factory farms." Said by PETA member Matt Prescott, the creator of the campaign.

According the the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, the Pledge is unconstitutional
- The Pledge of Allegiance is an unconstitutional endorsement of God, a federal appeals court reaffirmed today in its rejection of the Bush administration's request to reconsider its controversial decision.
- Ron Barrier, communications director for the nonprofit American Atheists, said that if the Bush administration seeks to keep the case alive by demanding a Supreme Court hearing, "it is squandering public tax money on behalf of sectarian religion."
- In the circuit court opinion, Judge Alfred Goodwin wrote that Newdow claimed his daughter is injured when she is compelled to "watch and listen as her state-employed teacher in her state-run school leads her classmates in a ritual proclaiming that there is a God, and that ours is 'one nation under God.'"
"I consider it injury to have government force dogma down the throats of little children," Newdow told WND shortly after the ruling.

The Iraqi Army seems to have been learning a few lessons from the French.
- Morale is low in the Iraqi army and many soldiers are preparing white flags of surrender, we are told by someone in northern Iraq who recently interviewed two defectors from Saddam Hussein's army.
- One was a captain who defected from the 5th Mechanized Division of the 1st Corps, based near the northern city of Kirkuk.
- A second soldier, a senior noncommissioned officer, defected from the same division's 34th Brigade, based south of the northern city of Mosul.
- This soldier said that of the 28 tanks in his care, only six were working. The others were broken down or otherwise in need of repair.

Another Canadian spouts off about us Americans.
Look, I know that MOST normal, everyday Canadians don't really lean one way or the other when it comes to their attitudes about Americans. But it seems that those in any position of authority start to lose brain cells or something.
- An antiwar Liberal MP said Wednesday that she hates "damn Americans" because of their aggressive position on Iraq, but later apologized for her remarks.
- "Damn Americans, I hate those bastards," Liberal MP Carolyn Parrish said while surrounded by reporters after a caucus meeting.
- Ms. Parrish later said the harsh words do not reflect her view of the people of the United States, although she is extremely angry about President George W. Bush's threat to invade Iraq.
- "That man's ready to go, he doesn't care. He is gunning for a fight," said Ms. Parrish, who represents the Ontario riding of Mississauga Centre.
- During her scrum with reporters shortly after a Liberal caucus meeting, Ms. Parrish was one of many Liberal MPs who praised Canadian efforts at the United Nations to delay, until the end of March, a deadline for a potential war in Iraq.
as i have said
It isn't that the "Seperation of Church and State" crowd is "anti-religion in government", it's more that they are "anti-christian", period. Now, because the Governor of Alabama, Bob Riley, holds a Bible study in his office, the same crowd is hollering "Seperation of Church and State".
Listen, just because you get elected, or you go to work, doesn't mean that you lose your First Amendment Rights. This has been decided time and again within the court system. I know, I know, it's a big "right wing conspiracy", live with it. There are those of us who actually ENJOY Bible studies. You are not required to attend. If you do attend and are not a Christian, I'm here to tell you now, you will, most likely, be offended because, oddly enough, there is talk of Jesus during the meetings.

Saddam says that he'd rather die before going into exile.
I'm sure we can arrange that for him.
wonderfully done, larry
Larry Miller has, from what I've read so far, an uncanny ability to point on the obvious when the left speaks.
When going over the left's arguments against war, Larry replies:
- [Argument]"Bush is a cowboy."[/Argument] Well, but it depends how you define "cowboy," doesn't it? Robert Redford played a cowboy in "The Electric Horseman," and everyone loved him.
Of course, Jacques Chirac uses it to mean a reckless, lawless idiot. I think a cowboy is: hardworking; unafraid; clear-eyed; innately understanding of a high, unmuddled morality; possessed of good values; ready for action; ready for a fight; ready to protect the weak; ready to stand alone. In this sense, I would agree completely. George W. Bush is a cowboy. I wish we all were. (I'd like to throw in "periodically hard-drinking," too, but that wouldn't apply here. Besides, the rest is what's important.)
why is it? - redux
Why is it that everytime I hear of a "person in authority" over children sexually abusing children, they are almost always homosexual? Well, it happened again.

California Governor Gray Davis is watching his approval ratings hit new lows, even for him.
Just look at what's happened to the California economy since he's been governor. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out why he's suffering in the polls. Of course, he is a Democrat. Their answer to budget problems? Find somebody to sue and get some quick money. For Gray Davis, that is the energy industry. Well, thanks for trying to ruin MY state's economy, Idiot.
Hey, California, how was your economy when Reagan was governor? Oh yeah, it ROCKED. Just another example of "trickle down" economics working in the real world.

Reading about it, I felt like I was reading a documentary about Woodstock. Sheesh, don't these people have anything better to do? Like, go to work?
- Women who only just met on a Sonoma County ridgetop Sunday shared strong opposition to the looming war in Iraq and were ready to literally bare all to demonstrate their feelings.

why is it?
Why is it that I can't use the "n-word" but those schmuks in Hollywood and New York television can do stupid crap like this and call it entertainment?
think about it
Iraq seems to have discovered even more stuff to hand over.
Okay, for all those who wish to do a little Bush Bashing™, consider this:
1) If it weren't for Bush, there would be no inspections in Iraq right now.
2) If it weren't for Bush, Saddam would have never okay'd unfettered access by said inspection teams.
3) If it weren't for Bush placing our military within striking distance, Saddam would have never turned over one iota of paperwork.
4) If it weren't for Bush placing General Franks in The Zone™, Saddam would not have even thought about volunteering the latest paperwork.
Saddam is trying to save his hide from a war with the most powerful war machine this planet has ever known. He knows good and well that President Bush is more than willing to "back up his statements" which have hit the press daily.
Pro-Saddam Anti-War protestors never seem to understand that:
1) The inspectors are finding stuff only because we are telling them where to look.
2) The inspectors find stuff because Saddam "volunteers" the information while knowing that a cruise missle has his address on it.
You see, the inspectors are absolutely worthless. They have been and will continue to be pawns in a delay game which Saddam is trying to play. The problem is, he is thinking he has a "try not to lose" type of game player in President Bush.
Being from Texas, I know how many Texans play games. To steal a phrase from Little Tiny Lies, "Go Big, or Go Home."
You see, we don't play many games down here (well, except for Sheila Jackson-Lee, Idiot Democrat, Houston). We don't "try not to lose" a game. We "play to win" because nobody remembers the name of the fella who came in second.

anti-murder victory - of sorts
The Supreme Court says that the State of Indiana law "that places some of the United States' most sever restrictions on abortions, is legal and okay to proceed.
- The Supreme Court cleared the way for an Indiana state law that places some of the United States' most severe restrictions on abortions, including requirements that a woman be counseled face-to-face about the risks and offered pictures of what her fetus might look like.
- The high court on Monday turned down an appeal from abortion clinics in Indiana claiming the in-person counseling sessions would force some women to forgo abortions
- "This is an outrageous law that leaves many women without access to abortions, or certainly places a heavy burden, an undue burden, on a woman's right to choose," said Kate Michelman, president of the pro-abortion rights group NARAL Pro-Choice America.
- The high court action means that Indiana may begin fully enforcing a law passed eight years ago that requires in-person counseling and an 18-hour waiting period before a woman can get an abortion.
- In practice, the Indiana law and similar measures on the books in four other states require women to make two trips to an abortion clinic. Opponents said that makes the procedure especially difficult
- Making two trips often means leaving work for two days, finding a place to stay overnight and arranging child care at home, said Janet Crepps, staff lawyer for the Center for Reproductive Rights.
- Women may also have a hard time explaining their absence from work, school or a husband or partner who does not know about the pregnancy, Crepps said.

ebay - tool of the racists
Though the article doesn't say it, I will: BLACK Activists are trying to eBay to stop allowing to be listed several items the activists deem offensive.
- Activists on Friday asked the Internet auction giant eBay to stop listing items they say are racially offensive and demeaning to blacks.
- The Southern California groups said eBay is violating its own policy that discourages sellers from listing items that promote racial intolerance.
- The groups displayed cast-iron banks they said were examples of items listed on eBay. One was a caricature of a black person, with large red lips, dark skin and rolling eyes, that had been described on eBay using the n-word.
- "This is what they think of us,"
- "This shows the absolute utter contempt many in the society still have for African-Americans even today."
- eBay removes listings using words in ways that are "abusive or offensive or degrading or in any way disparaging," [eBay Spokesman, Kevin] Pursglove said.
But it doesn't strike listings that use such words to describe items. For example, some book or album titles use a racial slur in their titles, Pursglove said.
- But Hutchinson and others say it's especially painful to find listings for books, prints, card games, antique glass sets, tobacco tins and other items that use a racial slur and are sometimes described as "cute" or "adorable."

[/pissy][/be][/don't][/parody]
- eBay's offensive material policy states the company will "judiciously disallow listings or items that promote or glorify hatred, violence, or racial intolerance, or items that promote organizations (such as the KKK, Nazis, neo-Nazis, and Aryan Nation) with such views."
- David Pilgrim estimates he has bought about 1,000 racist collectibles on eBay for the Jim Crow Museum of Racist Memorabilia located on the Ferris State University campus in Big Rapids, Mich. The museum displays about 4,000 items and has about 3,000 more in storage.
- The market for memorabilia depicting black people has undergone a resurgence in the last few years due to eBay, Yahoo! and other Internet auction houses, said Pilgrim, curator of the museum. Black memorabilia items range from black baseball league jerseys to postcards depicting lynchings that can sell for up to a thousand dollars, he said.
"I hate the fact that people buy" racist items, said Pilgrim, who is black. But "people have the right to sell."
- Andrew Robinson-Gaither, pastor of the Faith United Methodist Church in Los Angeles, said Friday he wants eBay to immediately cease listing such items.
- "How could eBay do this during black history month?" Robinson-Gaither said at the news conference.

they know best
European leaders have officially stuck their nose where it doesn't belong - U.S. domestic policy.
- The heads of the European Central Bank and eurozone finance ministers have expressed deep scepticism about the US administration's $690bn tax cut plan.
- Wim Duisenberg, ECB president, and Nikos Christodoulakis, the Greek minister who chairs the "eurogroup" of eurozone finance ministers, attacked the plan at the meeting of the Group of Seven leading industrialised nations in Paris at the weekend, saying it endangered the world economy.
- Mr Christodoulakis said the re-emergence of "twin deficits" - fiscal and balance of payments - "may create sustainability risks, which in case they materialise would have significant ramifications well beyond the US itself".
- John Snow, US Treasury secretary, pushed hard for international support for the Bush administration's tax plan during Saturday's meeting of finance ministers and central bankers.
- Mr Duisenberg hinted heavily that the ECB was preparing to cut interest rates to stimulate growth.

Seeminlgy shocked that the United States is willing to go back to the U.N. for a second resolution, France says it wouldn't vote for it.
I don't get it. We do what they ask, and they still won't do it. Maybe they really ARE afraid of what we're going to find in Iraq. Now, my interest is piqued.

those public schools
Public schools in Lost Angeles seem to think that the valedictorian award is a bit too competitive and are wanting to ban it.
- School board members and Principal Bill Black say that competition makes for an unhealthy educational environment.
can't think of anything but: they were stupid to begin with
It seems that our friends, aka, "The Human Shields™", are upset with Iraq because of the target they are being asked to protect.
- The first Western "human shields" will take up their places at strategic sites around Iraq today as dissent among them grows about the nature of the targets they are being asked to protect.
- Fifteen volunteers from the first 200 shields are moving into a bunker at the South Baghdad Electricity Plant in an effort to deter attack by America and its allies.
- However some of the shields yesterday questioned Iraq's selection of the power plant, after discovering that it is situated next to an army base.
- Since the shields' first visit to examine their new quarters, sandbags and unmanned check points had been erected around the plant. Asked about the neighbouring Rasheed military base, an Iraqi official said: "Don't worry, it is a small army camp."
- Yesterday Iraqi officials gave way to pressure from disgruntled volunteers, and agreed to place some at the schools, hospitals and old people's homes where they had hoped to defend the civilian population against possible attack.
- Rick Pruttwein, 28, from London, who runs summer camps for underprivileged children, told them he wanted to stay in an orphanage, capitalising on his work in Britain.
- The officials, however, said that he could be better used at more strategically important targets.
- "There are maybe 40 or 50 children in the orphanage, which is in an area of maybe 200,000-300,000 civilians," said Abdul Razak Al Hashimi, president of the Organisation of Friendship, Peace and Solidarity in Iraq.
- "If you go to a water purification plant instead, that will help many thousands more people - including children - to have clean water to drink."

My first and only question to Georgie Boy: Why don't you spew that crap over here? Because you are a useless, talentless, spineless piece of crap.
Of course, if he doesn't like America, he could just move. Oh, wait. That may actually decrease his income. You know, that out-of-this-world income an actor makes which would be taxed almost triple the amount in another country.
